New Orleans hosts premiere film event this autumn

By Festival Spotlight

The 19th Annual NEW ORLEANS FILM FESTIVAL (NOFF) is Louisiana’s preeminent film event, presenting an eclectic program of films each fall, with legendary New Orleans as its backdrop. This year the festival runs October 9 to 16, 2008.

At NOFF, both established and emerging filmmakers gain media exposure, connect with the region’s diverse audience, and participate in an acclaimed event attended by numerous industry professionals and celebrated luminaries. Many of the Festival’s alumni have gone on to be honored at Sundance, Cannes, and Toronto, and even at the Academy Awards.

Accepted filmmakers are enthusiastically welcomed to New Orleans as the Festival VIP’s, with free accommodations, local transportation, and all-access passes to festivities. Boasting an extensive program of screenings, workshops, panels, and Q&A’s, NOFF organizers promise a good time and a great Festival, year after year.

The New Orleans Film Festival is dedicated to presenting the best in local, national, and international films to over 10,000 attendees annually.

NOFF films are eligible to receive Audience Awards, as well as in-kind or cash prizes for distinctions including Best Narrative Feature, Narrative Short, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short, Animated film, Experimental film, Louisiana Filmmaker and the Grand Prize.

Films are screened throughout various venues across New Orleans, a city known for its diversity and warm Southern hospitality. NOFF 2007 was a huge success with over 120 films screened, and 55 filmmakers in attendance. This year’s Festival will feature special programs of Louisiana films, experimental films, and music-related films, while next year’s event promises a big celebration marking the 20th New Orleans Film Festival in style.
