New bloggers get their start at class in Sprague

Learning how to create a Gmail account at Google and set up a blog using Google’s Blogger platform were the highlights of a four-hour class held at the library in Sprague, Wash., on Saturday, April 26.

Seven students attended and successfully completed the mission of learning to sign on to their new Gmail and Blogger accounts and post articles in their new blogs at Blogspot.com.

The class, which was scheduled to be held in the bingo room at the Sprague Community Center was moved to the library when it was determined that the wifi signal at the center was insufficient for class purposes. Everything went smoothly once the transition was completed and everyone had an enjoyable and productive time.

Hot beverages were available throughout the session and a light lunch of sandwiches with cheese and cold cuts were provided at the noon hour.

The laptop computers used by the class were facilitated by Carey Roos of Washington State University. The class was co-taught by Michael Breckenridge of The Inland Echo and Rejeana Goolsby, co-chair of the Sprague Horizons Community Steering Committee.

Additional classes will be held on May 17 and June 21 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Classes are open to anyone age 13 and up from the Sprague-Lamont area. Prior computer experience is appreciated but not required. After the class is over, students who don’t own computers can check with the Sprague Library during normal business hours for details on how to sign up for computer time.
