Honky Tonk Highway is a new country western musical by Richard Berg and Robert Lindsey Nassif. Directed by Reed McColm with Musical Direction by Pamela Brownlee, the setting is a Roadhouse Cafe in Tennessee, in 1970.

“Honky Tonk Highway” is a charming show about the bittersweet reunion of a country western band, coming together to reminisce about the life and music of their band’s leader, the late, great Clint Colby. As they laugh and sing, and also uncover old wounds, they take turns wearing Clint’s iconic cowboy hat, and for the duration of a song, they each “become” Clint to depict a crucial point in his rocket ride to fame.

Roles: 4 Men and 1 Woman plus 2 non-speaking roles of either gender. Every cast member must play country-western instruments. The non-speaking roles must be accomplished musicians, one of whom should be a drummer. Range of ages can vary upward for all roles, but the older you are, the better you should play!

The show’s music is played live onstage.

JENINE-KATE: Pure country sunshine and warmth. Compassionate and wise. Twenties.

NAT DAWSON: Laconic and shy, but also zany and sly. 20′s-30′s or older.

PAULIE LATNER: Boyish, attractive, born lucky. Women love him. 20′s-30′s.

CURTIS PATTERSON: Happy homebody; oldest member of band. Has a family, and would like to be home with them. 30′s – 40′s or older.

DARRELL WALLER: Lovable sadsack; a young curmudgeon. Droll sense of humor. Often jealous of Clint, and in love with Jenine-Kate. 30′s.

Voice types of all kinds are encouraged to audition, but the cast will include a high tenor, low tenor, baritone and bass for the men. Keys of specific songs may be adjusted to suit the soloist.

DATES OF AUDITIONS: Monday, December 7th, and Tuesday, December 8th, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM @ InterPlayers, 174 S. Howard, Spokane.

Depending on availability and schedule of cast, we expect to have a first reading and hearing of the score during the week of December 14th. Cast will be expected to rehearse the score on their own until staging rehearsals begin Monday, January 11th, 2010.

RUN OF SHOW: Thursday, January 28th through Saturday, February 13th.

Cast must be available through February 20th.
