Largest ever SFCC Jazz Festival hosts legendary artists and budding students

Community Colleges of SpokaneFebruary heats up with hot jazz at the Spokane Falls Community College Jazz and Diversity Festival Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 4-6.

Concerts at the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox, 1001 W. Sprague, include nine-time Grammy-winner Eddie Palmieri and his Latin Jazz Band, featuring Brian Lynch on the trumpet, 8 p.m. Feb. 5, and the Terri Lyne Carrington Quintet, featuring Greg Osby on the saxophone, 8 p.m., Feb. 4. Carrington is on faculty at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Tickets for the Feb. 4 show are $15, general admission, and $22, reserved. Tickets for the Feb. 5 show are $27, general admission, and $32, reserved. Reserve tickets to both shows are $46.

Workshops are held each day for about 225 local student musicians from eight area middle and high schools. Educational workshops for budding artists and the free SFCC Jazz Festival for music fans include:

Thursday, Feb. 4 
SFCC Jazz Fest (lectures and guest musicians from L.A. and Seattle), 8:30 a.m.– 2 p.m., SFCC SUB Lounges A, B and C, Bldg. 17, 3410 W. Fort George Wright Dr.

Big Band master class with the Terri Lyne Carrington Quintet and artists-in-residence, 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3:30 p.m., Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox.

Friday, Feb. 5
SFCC Jazz Fest, 8:15 a.m.– 3 p.m., SFCC SUB Lounges A, B and C.

Clinics with Eddie Palmieri and Bryan Lynch, 4 p.m., Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox.

Saturday, Feb. 6
SFCC Jazz Fest, 9-10:30 a.m., SFCC SUB Lounges A, B and C.

All tickets (reserved and general admission) for the concerts at Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox are available by calling the theater, 624-1200, or TicketsWest, 800-325-SEAT. General admission-only tickets are available at the SFCC Cashiers office, 533-3569, or Hoffman Music, 444-4140.
