Tribeca to host film fest in September

the 8th Annual VISIONFEST, exclusively celebrating the work of American filmmakers and writers at the famed Tribeca Cinemas, in the heart of New York City, September 17 to 21, 2008.

With no more than 55 official selections each season, VISIONFEST is known in the industry for its quality indie programming. Several NY-based distribution companies attend the Fest seeking content, including recent attendees Miramax Films, New Line Cinema, and AtomFilms.

Visionfest prides itself on bringing attention to the indie American filmmaker with the same enthusiasm and effort that is often reserved for international filmmakers. As such, numerous Fest alums are making waves in the industry. Topping the list is Robert Moresco (ONE EYED KING), who went on to coproduce the Oscar-winning MILLION DOLLAR BABY, earn Producing and Screenwriting Oscars for CRASH; and write and produce TV's THE BLACK DONNELLYS; and Donald Bull, who went on to direct THE OSBOURNES, NEWLYWEDS: NICK & JESSICA, and CAMP JIM for TV.

The mission of VISIONFEST is to provide an exhibition forum for the American auteur that is specialized and focused; one that does not dilute the presence of U.S. films within a sea of international product.

All VISIONFEST films are created by U.S. filmmakers and by production entities based solely in the United States. Projects may be shot in international locations and feature globally relevant storylines, but their origin must be rooted in the States. Screenplays may be original works or approved adaptations, penned by American writers.

Winning filmmakers vie for a total of $25,000 USD in industry goods and services, priming them for their next project. The winning screenplay will receive a staged reading in NY or LA, and the chance to follow in Fest alum Mike Bencivenga's footsteps. His screenplay SINGLE BULLET THEORY was read by leading actor Eric Stoltz, and later went on to development with Bencivenga signed on to direct.

On the Festival's opening night in 2007, actress Heather Graham introduced her film BROKEN, and declared that "it's really great to have our New York premiere at a cool festival like VISIONFEST. It's got the right vibe and we're really glad to be here."
