A 56-year-old Spokane Valley man died Monday afternoon when he fell 100 to 150 feet from the top of a cliff in the Dishman Hills Natural Area.
Deputies who responded to a call for help from the victim’s wife found the man at the base of a sheer rock wall used by many for rock climbing.
The couple was geocaching about 1:20 p.m. when the accident occurred. Using GPS coordinates garnered from an Internet website, the couple was searching for a prize hidden by another geocacher.
When they arrived at the top of the cliff, the husband apparently slipped on wet pine needles and fell to his death.
The name of the victim is being withheld pending release by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office.
