The 8th annual Giving Tree event had an extra added attraction this year. Local volunteer Tina Gors organized A Singer Songwriter Showcase presented at Connie's Cafe in Sandpoint. Talent included Mick Croon, Doug Bond, Ken La Barbara & The Three Wise Men, Chris Lynch and Holly McGary.
Donations from Jody Foss, Misty Mt. Furniture, Papa Murphy's, Rhythm Works, SWAC & Cafe Trinity were auctioned off.
The festivities were in full swing until 11pm and the cause proved to be a success.
The Giving Tree was originated by realtor Merry Brown Hayes. The organization collects toys donated by the community. The Selkirk Association of Realtors including Christine Bailey, Kathy Chambers, Donna Short and volunteer Tina Gors wrapped each gift. The toys were transported to Head Start in Bonners Ferry, Idaho Hills, Priest Lake, Priest River and Sandpoint as well as Panhandle Special Needs and TIPS, a local women & children's shelter in Sandpoint. The Giving Tree's goal is to see that each child receives a gift under the tree on Christmas.
