A Spokane County Jail deputy already charged with several crimes stemming from a December 2009 domestic violence incident was re-arrested Wednesday after he violated a court order prohibiting contact with his estranged wife.
Jeffrey Scott Leavey was arrested at his attorney’s East Broadway office and booked into the Spokane County Jail shortly after noon Wednesday. Deputy Jennifer Sutter said the 40-year-old suspect had been texting his wife in violation of the order, and had sent her more than a dozen texts Wednesday alone.
Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich placed the deputy on administrative leave after the December 19th incident, and was aware of Wednesday’s arrest as well.
In December, deputies went to the Leavey residence to investigate a domestic violence disturbance. They learned that Jeffrey had assaulted his wife by hitting her repeatedly with a cardboard box, had smashed her jewelry cabinet and had refused to let her leave the home by pinning her to a bed.
Deputy Marc Melville arrested Leavey and booked him into the Spokane County Jail on a felony charge of Unlawful Imprisonment and two misdemeanor counts of Fourth-Degree Assault and Third-Degree Malicious Mischief.
Following those arrests, a domestic violence protection order was served on Leavey prohibiting him from contacting his wife by any means.
Leavey has been employed by the sheriff’s office for two years.
