Spokane Valley police were shaking their heads Saturday after learning that motorists on busy North Argonne Road drove past a woman as she was knocked to the ground during a brazen daylight robbery attempt. Not one stopped to help the victim as she attempted to fight off her attacker. No one called 911.
The victim was walking in the 2300 block of North Argonne about 1 p.m. when she was confronted by a transient who grabbed her purse. The two struggled over the handbag for a minute before the woman was knocked to the ground.
She suffered cuts and scrapes on her face and arms, but retained possession of the purse. The would-be robber was last seen walking southbound away form the scene.
The victim described the man as 40 or 50 years old, six feet tall with a medium build and gray hair. She said he wore a blue plaid flannel jacket over a blue shirt and jeans.
The woman said the man had a distinctive gait to his walk, as if he suffered from bad hips or knees.
Police searched the area but failed to locate the suspect. Anyone with information regarding the attempted robbery or the suspect involved is urged to call Crime Check at 456-2233.
